The first order of business is being cap compliant. At this point, Mike Williams being released, or Khalil Mack, or Keenan Allen, does that.
After they are cap compliant - the Chargers can than make moves to get further under the cap, like to make trades before signing the three players to new contracts. So, yes, Spotrac is correct the Chargers will need $7m+ plus of cap space to sign those players - but first they need to be under the cap to make trades.
And yes, if Mike Williams is the one to be traded - they would have to release Mack or Allen or make other moves like Bosa and restructuring James

According to Spotrac they have or will be signed today, because they are counting them against the cap. So I don't know. Spotrac usually puts up the numbers
once the NFL office has rubber stamped them. But if you are correct then releasing one of the big four would do it.

Just two years after the Chargers signed J.C. Jackson to a record-setting five-year, $82.5 million contract, Los Angeles has traded the corner back to his former team in New England. The Chargers receive a late-round pick swap and some mild cap relief this year in return. But they’ll also absorb a dead cap charge of $21 million next year.
one bad deal is the source of 98% of our problems.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

no extra credit is awarded for turning in your paper early, it can only potentially degrade the grade received. e.g. if you've got no offer to accept, there is no rush to take that worst case action of releasing one of them without compensation. That option will still be the same on due date.
Hortiz will work the phones again today to try and make something happen. If nothing can get done, he'll take action near the deadline.

Funny. My departed Father in law, a WWII vet who served on a destroyer in the Pacific (great human) was a bourbon drinker when bourbon wasn't cool. Spent many an evening (and some afternoons!) drinking bourbon and ginger ale with him which he called a high ball or just plain bourbon.I have liked bourbon ever since, partly because of its composition and also because it reminds me of him. Now, bourbon is ultra cool, massively collected, flavored with awful things that have no business being added to it. The widths of ties aren't the only things that go in and out of style, I guess.
Cheers, Dad!
