To begin: Merry Christmas 8D
I don't know why I couldn't find any of this information, the best I could find is really just quite crappy. I also realize it's quite late, but really, I would have wanted a nice topic on this yesterday.

Importing a Map:
Importing maps allows you to easily create a map from an image.
Go into your Scenario Editor, and check under the map tab.
There should be settings for making a new map. Including an import map function.
Make sure before importing, that you setup the map size to the size you want, results are usually better with larger map sizes too.

The File:

  1. It has to to be in the .tga format
  2. It should be square (parts will be cut off/cropped otherwise)
  3. It has to use black for the land and white for the water
  4. Size isn't very important, just make sure it's not too big (big as in 2500x2500)
Just use the import button to find and select your image and you're good. As for finding images to base it off, it's good to look for outline maps or vectors (if you have the software to open them with). To save as TGA I would recommend getting some image editing software, such as GIMP.

For those wanting a nice, big map of the world, credits for it to MacDaddy Design:

Larger than Big Huge Maps:
This requires some modifications on your part.

  1. Simply go into the folder you have RoN T&P installed, mine is:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Rise of Nations\Thrones and Patriots
  2. Find the data folder, and inside it find the rules.xml.
  3. Open it with whatever you choose, notepad is good enough for our needs.
  4. Ctrl-F, and look for "Standard (4-player)". Choose any of the map sizes in this area to replace (except Tiny), I chose standard.
  5. In the <DATA>70</DATA>, just below it, change the 70 to 140.
Why 140? Because Big Huge is 100, and is 400x400 in size, the max size before RoN goes buggy is 560x560, 560 is 140% of 400, and 140 is 140% of 100.
  6. At this time, you could also rename the size to something more appropriate.
There we go, now just open scenario editor, click on the map tab, select the size you just edited, and generate or import the map.

Have fun 8D

Thank you so much! I have always wanted to do this, and now I can! Next, hopefully you can figure out how to have more factions and nations in one game!

if you don't feel like modding the rules file yourself you can download my Gold Compilation of Mods (somewhere in downloads, just search jimmybda) and it's in there along with some other stuff. Sargon, i know you're working on some scenarios, in my download there are a few scripts which add random plague and random revolts, and throwing them in scenarios is always fun for another layer of realism. Plus who doesn't like popup dialogues/ printgamemsg's to make you feel like you're playing a cool scripted scenario?

Is it possible to do the "larger than Big Huge maps" as a standard mod file?

Edit: It is, I just tested it.

I wonder if it's possible to add another map size below Big Huge. I'll give this a try.

you need to use an "expert" image editor. GIMP is a very good one, and the good thing is that it's free!

Your map isn't square if certain parts are being cut off.

Is there any way to square it without messing up because I was under the impression that it was but I don't know how to adjust it any better.
