Gauntlets without separate fingers were developed during the early XV century. The idea was to create good protection for the palm in which four fingers would be covered by one large steel plate. This type of armor was called Mitten Gauntlets, Hentzen (German), mitons (French), ormittene (Italian). They were commonly used both on battlefields and during tournaments. Some examples of mitten gauntlets had an additional plate with a hole and steel pin on the other side. When a knight gripped his sword, the mitten was locked with a pin — making disarmament nearly impossible.

Our Mitten Gauntlets are articulated. This functional construction is approved by experienced HMB and IMCF sportsmen as the most effective hand protection for the following reasons:
– comfortable cuff that suits any steel plate forearm (brassards)
– perfect articulation over the first knuckle
– a fully covered thumb.
Our Mitten Gauntlets are equipped with a sewn padded mitten inside and can be made from mild steel, tempered spring steel, stainless steel, or titanium.
