What are the width sizes for men's shoes? ›

Wrap a tape measure around the widest part of your bare foot. Place a foot on the ground as if you were standing normally. Mark the width of your foot in millimetres on the tape measure. Use this measurement to determine the shoe width you need.

It can be difficult to figure out what size shoe you should buy, especially because different brands and styles come in multiple sizes. However, the average male's foot is generally between 6 and 7.5 inches in width and 9 and 10 inches in length.

A regular or medium foot width is a little less than half of your foot size in inches. For example, if you wear a size 7 shoe, then a regular foot width would be around 3.45 inches, whereas a wide size 7 foot would measure anywhere from 3.75 to 4.25 inches.

For men, a 'B' width will be considered a Narrow shoe, with an 'A' width considered Extra Narrow.

Examples are (each starting with the narrowest width): AAA, AA, A, B, C, D, E, EE, EEE is the typical North American system and follows the brannock device standards, per the system B is narrow, C is regular, D is medium, E is wide, EE is extra wide and so on. The unlettered D size is the norm for men and B for women.

A 'D' width fits most men and is considered their Standard/Medium, but for women is a wider fit. If you're not sure what your shoe size is, or you're finding shoe width letters confusing, trying on a few pairs of shoes is a good way to figure out your sizing.

This difference occurs across the ball of the foot and is the maximum difference in width. There is less of a width difference as you move toward the tip of the shoe and toward the heel.
