Sealed box vs ported box – what's the difference? The secret to which type of bass you'll get lies in the type of subwoofer box you use. If you prefer bass that's "tight" and focused, go for a sealed box. If you want your bass to boom and you want maximum volume in your music, then you definitely want a ported box.

Add Volume. By making the enclosure a bit bigger it will become more efficient in many cases, increasing output.

The manufacturer recommends a box volume of 0.65 to 1.0 cubic feet, so it'll be fine in a small box.

Ported enclosures are typically used to get more output from the same power of an amplifier than a sealed enclosure because they are more efficient. They will also have more overall output than a sealed enclosure which means they can play louder overall.

In particular, using a too-small box or a too-high vent tuning frequency can eliminate bass instead of increasing it. Porting a sealed box that is too small usually does nothing to improve frequency response. The vent's placement within the enclosure is also important.

The sound wave coming off the back of your subwoofer reacts with the air contained in the box. Polyester fiber stuffing slows down sound waves inside the box, making the subwoofer perform as if the box were bigger. Use 1 to 1-1/2 pounds of stuffing per cubic foot of box volume.
