Skechers is a footwear brand based in Manhattan Beach, California. Now best known for its athletic and casual, comfortable and stylish footwear, at its conception the brand created utility boots and skate shoes.

Skechers was founded in 1992 and quickly grew in popularity through celebrity endorsem*nt and advertising. It created both lifestyle and performance footwear, including the Skechers Memory Foam range.

So now you know what they are, are Skechers good for your feet? Let's consider the benefits first. Generally, Skechers products are comfortable and supportive. Memory foam soles provide cushioning for the foot. They're also breathable and flexible. The only caveat? Skechers are not specifically designed for foot problems. Therefore, if you suffer from a specific foot issue you're best off getting suitable advice before choosing the right shoes for you.

Skechers shoes are known for their memory foam technology. Originally developed by NASA (it's true!), memory foam is a material that is sensitive to pressure and temperature. This allows it to mould to shape, providing increased comfort. Skechers introduced a layer of memory foam to the sole of its shoes which provided extra cushioning, making them exceptionally comfortable.

Founded in 1992, Skechers was originally intended to distribute Dr Martens shoes. The founder, Robert Greenberg, who was also behind the brand LA Gear, soon changed direction and started to design and manufacture his own brand of products. The initial offering was a range of utility boots and skate shoes.

The company started selling globally in 1997. After a raft of celebrity endorsed advertising, Skechers has become one of the US's fastest growing footwear brands and is reported to be the third largest athletic footwear company in the US.

How Do Skechers Fit

When it comes to finding your perfect pair of Skechers, the great news is you can choose from a variety of different fitting options. Skechers classic fit come in a medium width, which is a B width for women and a D width for men. This is made to fit the average foot. A 'B' or 'D' width gets slightly wider as the foot gets longer which tends to accommodate the typical foot size. However, Skechers understand that every foot is different, so they provide different fitting options too.

Skechers relaxed fit provide the same width in the heel as their classic fit but they have extra room around the toes, which is the equivalent of an 'E' width for men and a 'C' width for women's Skechers. If this isn't enough, you can opt for a wide fit which provides a looser fit around the whole foot. For men's Skechers, there's also an extra wide fit option which provides maximum space for extra comfort.

If you're wondering what size Skechers to buy, it's best to opt for your usual size. However, due to their comfortable fit, some people find they are a little roomier than you might expect. The best solution is to try your chosen Skechers on and decide what works for you.

If you have a pair of Skechers that are a little too tight you might be wondering if you can stretch them out. Wear them with a pair of thick socks around the house and this should do the job, gradually helping them to loosen up.

Cleaning Skechers Shoes

Once you've fallen in love with your favourite pair of Skechers, you'll want to wear them over and over again! The best way to prolong their life is to look after them and keep them clean. Here's how!

Skechers: How to Clean

To keep your Skechers in tip top condition, it's best to clean the uppers with a cleanser gel or mild detergent and a soft cloth. This should remove any surface stains. Fully submerging the shoe in water or putting it through a cycle in the washing machine can affect the material and stitching so this is best kept as a last resort.

Can Skechers Shoes be Machine Washed?

If your Skechers are not made from leather, they can usually be machine washed on a gentle cycle. Apply a protectant spray before washing to help guard against water stains. After washing, let your Skechers air dry. If your shoes have Skechers Memory Foam™ insoles, they should be left to dry for 10 to 12 hours.

Are Skechers Waterproof?

Skechers aren't waterproof, but you can add some level of weatherproofing by using a waterproof spray before you wear them.

We hope our brand spotlight on Skechers has helped you to learn a little more about this popular footwear range. Next time you're looking for comfortable, flexible, stylish and supportive shoes, why not give Skechers a try?
