Well...unfortunately it was worth enough to turn down $120,000. I also found out they only made like 2200 of these Cuda's and it all happened in a 2 month period. Seven of which were this color with a stick.
She's never put it up for sale. The guy who offered her the money looked her up through the DMV.....how creepy is that?

No your not. The guy bent the rules and said he had a friend that worked in the DMV. We're in Oregon and he lived in Texas I guess. That's where the creepy part comes in.

You mean like not being made anymore? Does that count?

Ask yourself that question: when production ceases, does that always reflect a demonstrable increase in value? Sure, the classic auto industry is a parallel, but there's a reason a 1970 Hemi 'Cuda can sell for $200K+, while it's 318 CID counterpart might fetch $20K. Supply and demand (as well as some degree of irrationality) at its finest. And there's little demand for 15 year old motocross bikes, especially ones produced in such high quantities.
"Great" Craigslist deals sell quickly. This bike is a good deal, but only if the buyer doesn't ride it. It's value lies in its pristine state; one moto and it's just another 250. So the seller is trying to find "that guy" who sees value in simply owning a very lightly-used Honda. There are not many of those guys.

So freaking weird you used that car as an example. A lady I'm doing a job for ( like right now I'm on her job! ) bought this 71' Cuda as her first new car in 73'. She has kept it all original. It is only one of seven ever made in this color and with a stick. She was offered $120,000 for it and turned it down
Not being a dick but it's a 1970. My dad has a 1970 Challenger T/A with 50k original miles,it's the brother car to the AAR cool cars!

It doesnt matter if this bike is worth it or not. And the fact that you can find them for less money in as good of shape is also irrelevant.
Its more about proximity and availability. This bike is here and available. People want things when they want them, and sometimes people knowingly over-pay in that circ*mstance. And some people just dont have the time or means to go out of state and pick one up.
Cost and value aren't mutual, and desire trumps all.

Yes, but if you rip out the stock turd, and build a 500hp 446, the problem is solved. Sort of like a delete kit for diesels, only funner. For added entertainment, have a Fo-peed, Chure Grip rear end, and side step the clutch upon release. A lot.
That AAR is worth a lot more than $120K, I'm thinking.

My buddy just sold one with more hours on it than that one for $3400 a few miles from where MX510 lives. He's right.
KBB isn't obsolete, but in this case they are probably irrelevant because they've failed to accurately predict market the market. A lot of books say a lot of things, but that doesn't make them right. Do you believe everything you read?
